Helping Oakhurst STEAM Academy

Let's help our partner school, Oakhurst Rockets, 'blast off' into a new year! Last year we provided 15 weekly Math tutors, school supplies, teacher care packages, meals, and training for the staff. This year, we plan to do the same AND supply each student with a Free Student Planner. Oakhurst STEAM is a Title 1 school, and under the leadership of Principal Angela Blue and area partners, has steadily been improving the quality of the school for the local residents.

Let's help the children and faculty at Oakhurst STEAM Academy! There are three ways you can help this school year:

  1. Donate school/classroom/student supplies (listed below)

  2. Donate funds to support our ongoing ministries with the school (click HERE to donate. Select “Oakhurst School” as the fund)

  3. Volunteer to be a Heart Math Tutor at Oakhurst (click HERE to sign up)

Below is a note from Principal Blue of Oakhurst STEAM Academy:

My vision/mission for Oakhurst STEAM Academy aligns with the vision and mission of the district.  We believe in the success of all students AND that it takes a "village" for this to happen.  The school, the family, and the community must all align, and we at Oakhurst welcome this high level of engagement to ensure the academic success as well as the social/emotional success of our students as they complete their foundation of learning here at our school.

On a personal note, 21-22 was a challenging year for my staff, my families, and me.  I (we) have all experienced loss of family members, pets, as well as home insecurities for my students.  The pandemic has had some residual effects on all of us and the diseases and viruses do not seem to be ending any time soon.  The shift in perception regarding public education and the value the state has put on it with lowering wages and benefits has definitely made it more challenging to staff the building and continue to inspire those who choose to be educators.

I continue to be grateful for the support of your church.  You all have always been a phone call away with a smile, a note of encouragement, a nourishing meal and/or prayer, and a hug when needed.  Your support strengthens me and gives me the "fuel" I need to continue to push for our future leaders of tomorrow.

We (I) are optimistic about the future of education and Oakhurst!  The EOY results reflect growth in all areas and we have a targeted plan to focus more on the emotional as well as the academic needs of our students.  I'm reaching out to my families early to ensure they understand their role in our school!  We will continue to "soar" in the right direction and we are thrilled to have you all with us for the ride!!!
