Room in the Inn

Providence UMC is excited to be partnering with Roof Above for Room in the Inn! For 25 years, Room in the Inn has provided shelter and meals for homeless people in Charlotte during the cold, winter months (December - March). In addition to providing basic needs, this ministry serves to build deep relationships between those who volunteer and those who seek support from the program. Although this year will look different, Providence UMC is helping these neighbors in need.

Partnership Details

  • Chad Kelley is Providence UMC’s Room in the Inn Coordinator.

  • Providence UMC is hosting one night a week from December 1 to the end of March (Wednesdays).

  • We are currently seeking volunteers who are willing to help during the winter months. Contact Chad for more information or sign up through the Signup Genius link below.

  • We are working with another partner church, New City Church, to provide meals and other assistance.

  • Providence UMC is working with Task Force and with Roof Above to develop safe procedures.

  • We will be providing a new reference/training manual with our new procedures.

  • All guests ages 12+ must have received full vaccination. Volunteer vaccination is not required but highly encouraged.

  • Indoor seating capacity will be limited and social distancing will be encouraged.

  • Any guests who test positive for COVID will be diverted to a quarantine location. All impacted Site Coordinators will be contacted. For extra caution, the Health Department will be engaged for contact tracing.
