Advent Map

As we continue on the Road to Bethlehem, we want to invite you to join us in a meaningful, visual way to pray for our community, our nation, and the world. During the season of Advent, you are invited to stop by the map in the Atrium any time the church is open to physically mark the places we are praying for hope, peace, joy, and love.

How Does It Work? In the Atrium, you’ll find a large world map. Our 4 main locations of Advent have been highlighted.  Each person and family is invited to take a pin and place it on the map to mark the areas anywhere in the world where they are praying. We’ve divided the map into four key themes, and as you pray, think about where you are focusing your prayers:

Hope: Are there places in your neighborhood or beyond where you see a need for hope? Perhaps you know of someone struggling with health, family issues, or personal challenges. Wherever you feel the need for hope, place a pin to represent your prayer.

Peace: We live in a time when peace—both inner peace and peace in our communities—is deeply needed. Whether it’s an area that has experienced conflict, a place in need of reconciliation, or a personal prayer for peace, place a pin to represent your prayer for peace.

Joy: Joy can transform lives and communities. As you pray for joy, think about the places where joy is needed to uplift spirits. Maybe it’s a family member, a local school, or a community group. Mark it with a pin and pray for joy to overflow in that place.

Love: In a world that often seems divided, love has the power to bring us together. We ask you to place a pin where you are praying for love to grow—whether it's for people you know personally or a broader community. Love can heal, reconcile, and unite, and we want to pray for that everywhere.

Why Use a Map? By placing pins on the map, we create a visual representation of our collective prayers. This map will serve as a reminder of the power of prayer and the many ways we are connected through our shared faith. Every pin represents a prayer for something greater—whether it’s for healing, reconciliation, strength, or simply a prayer for God’s presence to be felt.

As the map fills up, we’ll see how our prayers are spreading out across our community and beyond, and it will be a tangible reminder that we are united in praying for God’s hope, peace, joy, and love to touch every corner of the world.

We look forward to seeing how our prayers, represented by these pins, will fill our map and remind us of the strength of community and the power of prayer.

One Room Schoolhouse

This Advent season, all adults are invited to embark on a special journey through Rob Fuquay’s study, On The Way to Bethlehem. Together, we will explore the places and people who played a pivotal role in the story of Jesus' birth. Our first stop? Rome!

Each Sunday during Advent, we’ll gather to dive deeper into the history, culture, and significance of the journey leading to Bethlehem. Whether you're familiar with the story or discovering it anew, this study offers fresh insights and meaningful reflections for the season.

We will Wolfe Hall during the Sunday school hour (following the 9 AM service). You may want to sit together as a Sunday school class or perhaps you to take the opportunity to mingle with other classes. Either way, we are hoping you’ll join us!

Heart of Giving

Heart of Giving cards are back! Make a financial gift to one or more of Providence UMC’s missions of your choice to honor someone special. Grab a form from the Atrium or an Advent Kit, fill it out, and return it with a check to the church office. Then, take as many Heart of Giving cards as you’d like and send them to your honored loved ones!
