Youth Ministry Vision and Purpose

Share – Surround – Send

The Vision of Providence UMC: To be the Body of Christ glorifying God and serving others.

The vision of PUMC Youth Ministry is to build up the Body of Christ.

We shall be faithful to this vision by using The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) as our guide.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.

The Scope of our vision is stressed in four parts of the Great Commission:

  1. To Go and Make Disciples: We shall exist to SEND ourselves to those who are hurting among us or have lost their way; to those who may not know Christ; to those who are the weary, the worn and the weak.
  2. Baptizing Them: We shall exist to SHARE the Good News of Jesus Christ with each other as well as those in our community, nation, and world through our words and actions.
  3. Teaching Them: We shall exist to SURROUND our youth with opportunities for spiritual growth, safe learning environments, and Biblical Truths.
  4. With You Always: We shall have the confidence that God is the sustainer for our purpose. God will be with us in building relationships with all youth and creating the environment needed to make Disciples for Jesus Christ.

Therefore; the purpose of PUMC Youth Ministry is:

SHARE God’s love by creating an environment that SURROUNDS youth with encouragement and understanding to then SEND them forth empowered and equipped as a Disciple of Christ.

Send

We shall exist to SEND ourselves to those who are hurting, or have lost their way; to those who may not know Christ; and to those who are weary, worn, and weak.

We work actively in missions throughout the year in our local Charlotte community, around the country, and internationally. These projects include hosting a Nothing But Nets basketball game to prevent malaria in Africa, and sponsoring a Men's Shelter sweatshirt collection. In the summer, we travel to Johns Island, SC, for a week-long partnership with Habitat for Humanity, called HOPE (Helping Out People Everywhere). Our Choir Mission Tour leads a music camp for kids in Hollywood, SC. Each mission opportunity allows us to go beyond our comfort zones and experience the joy of giving back to others.

Share

We shall exist to SHARE the Good News of Jesus Christ with each other, as well as those in our community, nation, and world through our words and actions.

We strive to be intentional in our personal faith journeys, encouraging each other along the way. Youth Sunday School helps us do this, and so does our Imprints Bible Study. We go on several retreats that give us time away from our busy schedules to focus on our relationship with God, and how we can apply our faith to our daily lives. In Confirmation Class, 6th graders explore what it means to be Christian, and what it means to belong to the Methodist Church. By supporting others, we also strengthen our faith.

Surround

We shall exist to SURROUND our youth with opportunities for spiritual growth, safe learning environments, and Biblical Truths.

We are a group that practices radical hospitality, excitedly welcoming everyone in the name of Christ. You are warmly invited to participate in our many activities, from our basketball and softball programs to our annual youth events, retreats, and mission trips. Our weekly UMYF meetings also provide a chance to form new friendships and enjoy fellowship, fun, and discussi

We take great joy in participating in worship at Providence. Youth Choir and Bell Choir are great ways to get involved and praise God. You can also join the Liturgical Dancers or the Providence Players. These forms of artistic expression help us grow in fellowship and appreciation of God's work in our lives.
