At Providence United Methodist Church we are committed to helping our children grow in their Christian faith through worship, study and fellowship. A strong Biblical foundation helps them become disciples of Jesus Christ who live out their faith in the church and in the world by glorifying God and serving others. We provide children a safe environment where they can develop a love of God, self and others. Parents are encouraged and equipped to be the leaders in their children’s Christian education.

Education, Programs & Childcare

Sunday School

Children’s Sunday School is a time for children ages 2 through 5th grade to come together with other children of similar ages to learn how God works in their lives. Young children learn that church is a place where they are welcomed and loved.

As children grow, they learn the lessons that God teaches us through the Bible and through his son Jesus Christ. All preschool classes are on the first floor of the Education Building. All older elementary classes are on the second floor. We welcome members and friends to come and experience Children’s Sunday School with us from 9:45 – 10:45 AM each week. For more information, contact:

  • Anna Smith, Director of Children and Family Ministries
  • BJ Hilliard, Assistant Director of Children and Family Ministries – Elementary
Worship Childcare

Worship Childcare is provided each Sunday in our Church nursery:

  • 8:30 – 9:30 AM — infant through preschool
  • 9:30 AM – noon — infants and 1-year-olds

Sunday School is available for children age 2 by August 31

Weekday School

The Weekday School operates from September through May and serves children ages six months to five years. The school’s hours are 9:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Families register in January for the school year that begins in September.

Visit the Weekday School page for more information.

Welcoming Babies

With news of the birth or adoption of a new baby, the New Baby Coordinator sends a card of congratulations, schedules a visit with the family and provides a copy of the bulletin and the birth candle (a candle that is lit in honor of the baby’s birth during the Worship Service).

Assisting Parent Program

The Assisting Parent Program provides our children ages 2, 3 and 4 with parent volunteers who assist teachers during the Sunday School hour and serve as caregivers during the 11:00 AM worship services.

Parents volunteer quarterly: one time per child, per quarter. This gives the children more individual attention and lets parents share in their children’s Christian education.

Childcare for infants is provided by paid caregivers who provide consistency for our youngest children.

Worship Readiness

We offer an education program to 1st graders to prepare children to participate more fully in worship. This program begins in August in the Discovery Center and lasts for eight weeks.

Hymnal and Bible Presentations

As a gift from the church and to encourage faith development, each kindergartner receives a hymnal and each third grade child receives a Bible during the 11:00 AM Worship Service early in the school year.
Junior MinTs

Our pre-teen youth group for fourth and fifth graders is Junior MinTs (young Methodist in training). The group meets twice a month for Christian fellowship, programs, outings and mission projects.
Children’s Choir

Our Children’s Choirs practice on Wednesday evenings and sing in worship on special occasions. Connect with our music ministry for more info on Children’s Choirs.

Providence UMC provides a meeting place for Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.
